Breast cancer remains one of the most common cancers among women, with thousands of new cases diagnosed in the United States every year. While the numbers may sound alarming, advances in early detection and treatment have led to improved survival rates. At the heart of this progress is one powerful tool: the mammogram.
The 2nd District Rural Letter Carriers met Saturday, September 13, at the La Pa Mexican Restaurant at Kirksville for a meal and meeting. Local attendees were Ben Savage, Harry Rhodes, Donald and Danelle Herring.
Reports across northwest Missouri indicate fall armyworm feeding on alfalfa and grasses. Many reports involve defoliated bromegrass fields but fall armyworms will also feed on tall fescue. In addition to alfalfa, soybean feeding has been reported in southwest Missouri. It is important to scout fields regularly, as defoliation can occur rapidly.

The 43rd annual Ewigman Family Reunion was held Saturday, July 26, at the Lake Nehai Clubhouse with 177 family members and 11 guests attending. This year’s chairpersons were Willie Ewigman and Ryenn Watson. The Pat Bradford family prepared the meat which was delicious deep fried catfish. Dennis and Sally Swenson were in charge of registration, and noted there are 314 registered descendants in the Ewigman Family. The Jim Ewigman family was in charge of set-up and clean-up. The silent auction was organized by Ashley Collins. Family group photos were taken by David and Erin Tilghman.
The Linn County Memorial Post 538 of the American Legion met on Tuesday, August 12, in Linneus. The Girls State attendee, Alivia Cox, from Meadville reported on her attendance at Girls State; she gave a very interesting report. In attendance were John Shaul, Rick Scruggs, Dwayne Murphy, Paul Chapman, Ralph Ham, Fred Duncan, Allen Powell, Mary Ham, Danelle Herring and Eudora Fitzpatrick.
